In Episode I Watto is shown to be a junk dealer and slave trader. He is the owner of Anakin Skywalker and his mother. After losing a bet, to Jedi Master Qui Gon Jinn, he lets Anakin go.
Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones
In Episode II he is seen again when Anakin returns home to save his mother. At this point Watto has lost everything.
