"Because I really thought we dropped the issue, sweetheart."

(Rapunzel: "No, Mother. I'm just saying I know you think I'm not strong enough to handle myself out there.") "Oh darling. I know you're not strong enough to handle yourself out there."-Gothel's wicked, manipulative grin.

"Rapunzel, we're done talking about this."

"Oh, great! Now, I'm the bad guy."

(Rapunzel: "All I was gonna say, Mother, is I know what I want for my birthday now.") "And what is that?"

(Rapunzel: "New paint. The paint made from the white shells you once brought me.") "Well, that is a very long trip, Rapunzel. Almost three days time."

Gothel relenting when Rapunzel says the paint is better than seeing the floating lights.

"You sure you'll be alright on your own?"

Upon further investigating, Gothel discovers a wanted poster inside the satchel.

Gothel seeing the wanted poster has an illustration for a thief named Flynn Rider.

Deducing Flynn had some involvement with Rapunzel's disappearance, Gothel decides to leave the tower, kill Flynn, and reclaim Rapunzel.

Opening a window, Gothel overhears Rapunzel singing how happy she is for leaving her tower.

Gothel angry to discover Rapunzel left the tower and that Flynn is accompanying her to the kingdom to see the floating lanterns.

"Oh, please. There's no need for that."-Gothel when the Stabbingtons draw their swords before she gives them the crown.

"Well, if that's all you desire, be on your way."

"I was going to offer you something worth one thousand crowns which would've made you rich beyond your wildest dreams. That wasn't even the best part."

"Oh well, c'est LA vie. Enjoy your crown."

Gothel hearing the Stabbingtons ask what else she has to offer.

"It comes with revenge on Flynn Rider."

Later that night, Gothel spies on Rapunzel and Flynn/Eugene Fitzherbert, seeing the two forming a bond.

"Well, I thought he'd never leave!"-Gothel revealing herself after Eugene leaves to get firewood.

(Rapunzel: "Mother?") "Hello, dear."

Gothel embracing a surprised Rapunzel.

(Rapunzel: "How did you find me?") "Oh, it was easy really. I just listened for the sound of complete and utter betrayal, and followed that."

"We're going home, Rapunzel. Now!"

Gothel sarcastically saying she's happy for Rapunzel for meeting Eugene.

Gothel hearing Rapunzel refusing to return to the tower due to her falling in love with Eugene.

(Rapunzel: "I think he likes me.") "Likes you? Please, Rapunzel, that's demented!"

(Rapunzel: "But Mother, I-") "This is why you never should have left!"

"Dear, this whole romance that you've invented, just proves, you're too naive to be here."

Gothel trying to manipulate Rapunzel and her growing feelings for Eugene.

"Why would he like you?"

"Come on now really!"

"Look at you! You think that he's impressed?"

"Don't be a dummy. Come with Mummy."

"Mother..."-Gothel waiting for Rapunzel to embrace her so she can take her back to the tower.

"No?"-Gothel upon hearing Rapunzel refuse to return to the tower.

"Oh. I see how it is."

"Rapunzel knows best. Rapunzel's so mature now."

"Such a clever grown up miss."

"Rapunzel knows best."

"Fine, if you're so sure now, go ahead, then give him this!"

"This is why he's here! Don't let him deceive you! Give it to him, watch, you'll see!"

"Trust me, my dear."

"That's how fast he'll leave you."

"I won't say I told you so!"

"No, Rapunzel knows best!"

"So if he's such a dreamboat, go ahead and put him to the test!"

"If he's lying, don't come crying."

"Mother knows best!"

"I really did try, Rapunzel. I tried to warn you what was out there."

"The world is dark, and selfish, and cruel. If it finds even the slightest ray of sunshine, it destroys it."

"Rapunzel?"-Gothel hearing a noise in Rapunzel's room.

"Rapunzel, what's going on up there?"

"Please speak up, Rapunzel. You know how I hate the mumbling."

Gothel shocked when Rapunzel discovers she's the lost princess of Corona.

Gothel standing in shock as Rapunzel questions her.

"Oh, Rapunzel. Do you even hear yourself? Why would you ask such a ridiculous question?"

Gothel surprised when Rapunzel pushes her away, having just realized she was never her mother, but her kidnapper.

Gothel revealing her true colors upon realizing Rapunzel now knows the truth.

"Everything I did was to protect you."-Gothel trying to justify her heinous actions.

Gothel after being shoved by an angry Rapunzel.

"Rapunzel!"-Gothel as Rapunzel realizes she keeping her isolated so she could have the magic of her hair all to herself.

"Where will we go? He won't be there for you."-Gothel revealing to Rapunzel she made Eugene look like he betrayed her and had been him captured so he could be executed.

"Now, now it's all right. Listen to me."

"All of this is as it should be."

Gothel seeing Rapunzel grab her wrist as the girl stands up to her.

Gothel hearing Rapunzel refuse to allow her to use her hair again.

A shocked Gothel having broken free from Rapunzel's grip, causing a mirror to shatter.

Mother Gothel shocked after she sees Rapunzel standing up to her.

"You want me to be the bad guy? Fine."

"Now I'm the bad guy."-Gothel about to apprehend and restrain Rapunzel.
