The Brooms are Characters in the 1940 film, Fantasia. They are the main antagonists in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment. The Apprentice (portrayed by Mickey Mouse) is tasked with filling a cauldron with water from a well. Not wanting to do so himself, he puts on his master's hat and uses a spell to bring a broom to life to do it for him. The Apprentice falls asleep, and the broom overfills the cauldron. When the Apprentice wakes up, he does not know the spell to get the broom to stop, so he breaks it in half. From the two halves, as well as the scattered splinters, and entire army of water-carrying brooms arises, and the entire room is soon filled with water. Eventually, the sorcerer, Yen Sid, arrives, destroys all of the brooms, and punishes the Apprentice both for using his hat without permission and for shirking his duties.
